Floral design & ikebana are MY HOBBIES/PASSIONS. I am currently studying at THE OHARA SCHOOL OF IKEBANA NEW YORK CHAPTER LED BY SENSEI ASAE TAKAHASHI OF HANADOJO.
Dancing Orchid, SEPTEMBER 2023. Oncidium Orchid, ElenaPhotography / Art Direction by Pat Cupo and Grace Kao. We did some test shots for practice on the studio camera and ended up playing with the shutter speed while one of us gently swayed the orchid branch to get some interesting movement trails.

I’m starting with simple setups (or whatever I can manage in my tiny space) as I learn different technical settings, lighting, styling, and staging tricks.

The following images show arrangements from ikebana classes and workshops. I’m learning more about tall vase arrangements and the various construction methods used to hold the floral materials in place (e.g. skewers and three-point stabilization).

HANA-ISHO TENKAI, HIRAKU-KATACHI (RADIAL FORM) ひらくかたち SUMMER 2023 (MARIGOLDS, TI LEAVES, BEGONIA)This practice composition is one of my favorites. I like radial form, it works nicely with this type of container, and the color palette of orange and green makes me happy.
